The Many Saints of Newark, the prequel to the Sopranos series now streaming and in theaters!
Released in preview in the United States during the Tribeca Film Festival on September 22, 2021, then in theaters and on HBO Max on October 1, 2021, it is now France’s turn to welcome the prequel film of the series “The Sopranos”: “The Many Saints of Newark” in our theaters.
The Sopranos’ series
The Sopranos, an American series created by David Chase, aired between 1999 and 2007, and tells the story of Tony Soprano, a gangster living in New Jersey. This family man consults Dr. Jennifer Melfi, mainly to work on his panic attacks. Indeed, Tony has to deal with his family life, but also with succession problems within the mafia and personal vendettas, which constantly subject him to fear…
A prequel film
In this prequel The Many Saints of Newark, directed by Alan Taylor, we are transported to the 60’s, during the youth of Tony Soprano before he became a crime legend. It is his uncle, Dickie Moltisanti, who will introduce him to the mafia, through the many gang wars. The story allows us to discover the bloody wars in Newark, between the mafia and the first African-American gangs, which led to the birth of the Tony Soprano we know. And the good news is that you don’t need to have seen the series to see the movie!
