SPY x FAMILY: We read the first volume and we give you our opinion!

Spy x Family is a manga series written by Tatsuya Endō since March 25, 2019. Today, seven volumes are available and have a total of 44 missions. We then got the first volume in the store Le Renard Doré in Paris (online sales also available) and we are coming back to you to give you a review.

THE STORY OF A SPY

Spy x Family takes place during the cold war. Twilight, one of the best spies, is sent on a mission in the enemy camp. In order to get closer to his target, the extremist politician from Ostania, Donovan Desmond, he has to start a family. He will have to adopt a child and register him in a prestigious school: Eden. Indeed, the son of Donovan Desmond studying in the school, he could get closer to his target.

SURPRISING BUT LOVING CHARACTERS

The first volume is only devoted to the construction of the false family. First we have Twilight (or Loid Forger), a spy from the Westalis agency. He is a rather cold character, which goes without saying with his job. He doesn’t shy away from anything for his job. But we discover, throughout the book, a new personality never seen before. Indeed, with the arrival of Anya (his new adopted daughter), we discover a new man.
Besides, Anya is a very special girl. She can read thoughts. Something very useful for Twilight, even if he is not aware of this power. Anya really wants a loving family because her previous family probably abandoned her. A very endearing character, just like Princess Ibara (Yor Forger), Twilight’s new/false wife. A double life for her too, since she is a hitman but also Anya’s fake mother. A new complicity is then created between Anya and Yor, a mother/daughter complicity.

SPY x FAMILY, WHAT DO WE THINK?

The manga is a gem! A very attractive story and very endearing characters. All along the book, we can see an evolution of the characters but also the evolution of their link. A false family that seems to take well to this new life.
